Bathing

Your baby should have sponge baths only until the umbilical cord has separated. Once tub baths are started any mild soap may be used except on the face, where plain water will suffice. Cleanse the outer ear only; do not use cotton applicators inside the ear canal. Baby lotion may be used after bathing, but avoid baby oil or dusted baby powder (talc particles can be inhaled.) NEVER LEAVE INFANT OR TODDLER UNATTENDED, even for a few seconds. Your hot water heater should be adjusted so that the maximum water temperature is 120°.
